{"id":456,"date":"2021-10-29T13:30:05","date_gmt":"2021-10-29T13:30:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/terrabioappdev.wpenginepowered.com\/grow-your-analysis-skills-with-the-ashg-interactive-workshops\/"},"modified":"2023-12-27T04:55:04","modified_gmt":"2023-12-27T04:55:04","slug":"grow-your-analysis-skills-with-the-ashg-interactive-workshops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/terra.bio\/grow-your-analysis-skills-with-the-ashg-interactive-workshops\/","title":{"rendered":"Grow your analysis skills with the ASHG Interactive Workshops"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another great annual meeting of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashg.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">American Society for Human Genetics<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (ASHG) concluded last week, and as always it&#8217;s been both thrilling and a little overwhelming to catch up on the latest work across the field.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One important thing to note is that this year the conference organizers decided to hold their traditional <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/learning.ashg.org\/workshops\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interactive Workshops<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> separately from the conference itself, in two sessions: one was held before the conference, in September, and the second is scheduled for January 2022.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Crucially, they&#8217;ve made these workshops independently ticketed events (with very low ticket prices), so unlike previous years, you don&#8217;t have to have registered for the full conference to be able to participate in the workshops. And of course thanks to the online nature of the delivery, the materials will remain available on demand for an extended period after the initial live session, so even if you can&#8217;t make the scheduled time, you can still work through it on your own time at a later date.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The content lined up for these workshops is very exciting, and I&#8217;m not <em>just<\/em> saying that because they include <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/learning.ashg.org\/products\/analyzing-and-visualizing-single-cell-genomics-data-from-the-brain-initiative-with-the-neuroscience-multi-omic-archive-and-nemo-analytics\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">one about the BRAIN Initiative&#8217;s NeMO resources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (which I <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/terra.bio\/explore-biccn-and-nemo-a-treasure-trove-of-resources-for-brain-research-on-the-cloud\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">just wrote about last week<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) in the September session, and two <a href=\"https:\/\/terra.bio\/how-terra-fits-within-the-anvil-ecosystem\/\">AnVIL-based<\/a> workshops in the upcoming January session. The whole lineup is well worth your time, so please do <a href=\"https:\/\/learning.ashg.org\/workshops\">check it out<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regarding the AnVIL-based workshops specifically, we&#8217;ll share more details as we get closer to the events<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but you can already save these dates:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jan 19 &#8211; Structural variant discovery from long-read sequencing data on the cloud with Galaxy in Terra<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Jan 26 &#8211; Reproducible Analysis of Human Pangenome Data using the AnVIL<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As a teaser, I can already tell you that the structural variation workshop will be<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> jointly organized and delivered by the AnVIL\/Terra teams at Johns Hopkins University and the Broad Institute.
